What is Bath Rapids?

Looking for a fun, active outdoor activity for your child this summer? Bath Rapids is an exciting junior paddling programme run by Bath Canoe Club, welcoming boys and girls aged 11–15 to enjoy Sunday mornings on the beautiful River Avon, right in the heart of Bath.

Paddling is a fantastic way for young people to stay active while building strength, coordination, and confidence. Time spent on the water supports both physical fitness and mental wellbeing, helping children reduce stress, boost mood, and develop resilience. Along the way, they’ll learn essential paddling skills, water safety, and problem solving – all while making new friends and having a great time outdoors.

Our friendly, supportive sessions encourage teamwork, communication, and friendship, while fostering a genuine appreciation for the natural environment. Most importantly… it’s all about having fun on the water!

Sessions run throughout June and July, from 10:30am to 12:30pm, and are led by qualified Paddle UK coaches, supported by experienced volunteers and paddling parents.

Not sure if it’s for you? The first two sessions are completely free, so your child can come and give it a go. After that, the full programme costs just £30 in total – less than £5 per session.

All equipment is provided, including boats, paddles, buoyancy aids, helmets, and spray decks. The club also has changing rooms and showers. Participants just need clothes they’re happy to get wet (a wetsuit is great but not essential), plus a towel and dry clothes.

Come and join us on the river – get active, grow in confidence, and have fun on the water with Bath Rapids.

All canoeing equipment will be provided but you will need your own clothing plus a lightweight jacket and old trainers, not crocs. You will get wet so don't wear your best clothes! Make sure you have dry clothes to change into afterwards.

Full changing and shower facilities are available in the Clubhouse.

THERE IS NO PARKING AT THE CLUBHOUSE, PLEASE ARRIVE ON FOOT or on 2 wheels.
