At Kingswood School, Lansdown Rd, Bath BA1 5RG

(NOT bank holidays even if in the calendar)

No need to register or book, just come along.

Pool sessions are good for learning rescues, sculling, rolls and other strokes. The water is clean and warm.

Meet in school carpark 20:15 for 20:30 start. If you arrive later go to the rear of the building at the top of the carpark and open the first door on your right as you come around the corner - that is the pool.

If it's your first time, make yourself known to Martin who runs the session and will probably be wearing a red BCC T-shirt.

Boats, spraydecks and paddles provided. If you wish to bring your own boat please get permission first by emailing Martin mailto:pool@bathcanoeclub.co.uk. You must thoroughly clean your boat inside and out first - no dirt in the pool !

The session is not structured and you are free to practice as you wish. At least one coach will be present (look for the red T-shirts)- but if you want guidance you will need to approach them -don't wait to be asked !

You will need to bring: swim wear and T-shirt to wear in the pool. Googles and nose clip are advisable due to the clhorine. Towel.

Bouyancy aids are not usually worn in the pool or provided, so if you want one you will need to bring one.

Session finishes 22:00, though you can of course leave earlier.

If you are a BCC member these sessions are included in your membership fee, i.e. are free.

For non-members a fee is payable on the evening.

An opportunity to prepare for the upcoming winter white water season.
Try out the magical breaking in and out and a bit of ferry gliding, if you're lucky you may even take a refreshing swim.
If you do swim you’ll be in excellent company, many first time ww paddlers in the club have spent a jolly day floating down the mighty Yat and most survived and went on to be grade 4-5, waterfall paddling, happy paddlers (or even the club’s coaches)

Symonds Yat is a fairly safe (it's moving water with rocks so never completely safe!) 50 metre stretch of gentle rapids that you can run and then carry boat back up to run again until exhaustion sets in…

We will be running a progressive programme of white water trip from the beginning of October, but it is far better to learn the basics at the Yat than a cold October river in Devon/Wales.

So don’t put off your first ww trip until the shortest day of the year, when it is -5C, a grade 3 river is planned and you’re wearing a t-shirt because the trip leader will send you home.
Unlike most white water trips this has pubs, toilets and ice cream shops.

As always we need loads of experienced paddlers/throwlines/cakes.

Meet at the club to leave by 09.00  there could be many other clubs preparing for the winter white water season so it does get busy at midday.

On average it's about a 1:15 - 1:45 and 64 mile drive. Depending on paddlers energy levels or time spent in pub we may not be home much before 18:00.

Please register if you intend to come. It will log your experience, if car has boat carrying capability and emergency contact details that make it a little easier for the organisers.

What to bring - the usual stuff but not forgetting:
Warm paddling kit as it could be cold?
A cold/hot drink could be a must have - an unbreakable flask or drinks bottle (attached) in the back of your boat.
Food - high energy food is best (flapjacks/Mars bars/banana are good)
Dry warm clothes to get changed into post paddle.
At least one GBBO technical challenge home-made cake for the organiser.

    Getting there:
We share the cost of the fuel (130+ miles so could be around £20-£35 per car). We'll have the £6.50 toll and parking/launch to pay for.

We will be running a progressive programme of white water trip from the 14th of October, on rivers in Devon/Wales. The location will be confirmed closer to the event and will depend on the rain. Too little or too much rain may result in trip being moved to different river or cancelled (some times at short notice).

If it is your first season get on the river in October. Don’t put off your first ww trip until December, when it is -5C, a grade 3+ river is planned and you’re wearing a t-shirt - if you do the trip leader will send you home.
Most white water trips won't have toilets, changing rooms or pubs.

As always we need loads of experienced paddlers/throwlines/cakes and people willing to drive with roof racks to carry boats. If we only have two drivers and they can carry three boats each, the seventh person to turn up won't get to paddle.

Meet at the club to leave by 08.00, as the winter progresses daylight hours are fewer and the trip leaders need to ensure we have a suitable margin of error to get everyone safely off the river before it gets dark. If you tend to spend 10 minutes deciding which paddle to take turn up early. Don't forget it is early and we have neighbours so keep the noise down and nudity only in the clubhouse.

On average most good rivers are about a 1:45 - 2:15 and 100 mile drive. Depending on paddlers energy levels or time spent faffing we may not be home much before 18:00.

Please register if you intend to come. It will log your experience, if car has boat carrying capability and emergency contact details that make it a little easier for the organisers.
