Camping Weekend

Organiser: Hugh Bennet

mailto:wavehop@googlemail.com

This is a weekend trip -arriving Friday evening, paddling Saturday and Sunday.

Overview
Camp Friday and Saturday nights at Maker Heights near Torpoint. This is one of the best located campsites that I know of with wonderful views over Plymouth Sound and the coast. The owners are very laid back, they’re more than happy with camp fires. Yurts are available at £60 per night between 4 people but you would have to book fairly soon to get one. Camping is about £8 pp per night.
Take a look at their website.
Who is it for
Anyone who has passed ITP.
What will we do
I will organise day trips for Saturday and Sunday and possibly a short evening paddle on Friday (anyone wanting to do that will need a head torch). The get in points are at either Cawsands or Mount Edgecombe Country Park, both are a 10 minute drive from the campsite. The location of the trips will be dependent on the weather and tides. Some of the options would be to go west along the Cornish coast, east along the Devon coast, up the river Tamar or if we are looking for a sheltered trip the river Lynher is a beautiful paddle with loads of creeks to explore. Other options are to paddle within Plymouth Sound or explore the river Yealm. So there are loads of choices.
If anyone decides not to paddle or brings non paddling partners there are ferries across to Plymouth from both Cawsands and Mount Edgecombe.
Getting there
Head to Plymouth. Follow the signs to the Torpoint ferry. Get on the ferry (if I remember correctly you only pay on the return trip, about £1.50), get off again at Torpoint.
Head to the campsite which is about 20 mins from the ferry. There is a faster low tide option across St Johns ford but make absolutely sure you have your tide calculations correct otherwise you may well be doing an unplanned Friday evening paddle in your car.
