FALMOUTH AREA

SEA KAYAKING

BANK HOL WEEKEND

Organiser: Phil Filby

mailto:Phil.Filby@yahoo.co.uk

Sea Kayaking weekend is planned for 2-5 May in the Falmouth area https://maps.google.co.uk/maps?hl=en&ll=50.172281,-5.085983&spn=0.226928,0.564423&t=m&z=12 .  There is an abundance of opportunity in this area for all levels of experience and with both sheltered and exposed waters it should be possible to paddle whatever the weather.  There are miles of estuary to be explored (Carrick Roads and Helford River), pretty coastline to the East, West and even the North Cornwall coast is in easy reach.  Clearly the actual trips will be dependent on the weather and ability of paddlers.

Open to anyone who has passed ITP. No previous sea experience necessary. If under 18 you must be accompanied by a responsible adult for the whole trip including on the water.

You must register if you intend to come. Places are limited to ensure a sensible ratio between 3* and less experienced paddlers.

[PLEASE TICK the 'Share Register' box otherwise the organiser can't see who is coming ! ]

The campsite  to be used as a base will be Tregunwith Farm (TR11 5SU, Grid SW803376) www.tregunwithfarm.com  This is fairly well placed for all eventualities including short walk to a pub.  £7 per pitch per night for small tent. YOU need to book your pitch / alternative accommodation.

The outline plan is as follows:
Fri 2 May 14.  I aim to arrive at the campsite in the evening.  There are no plans for an organised paddle on the Fri.
Sat 3 May 14.  Gather together at 09:00hrs to confirm the plan for the day.  Paddle all day.
Sun 4 May 14.  Again, 09:00hrs planning meeting. Paddle all day.
Mon 5 May 14.  Potential for short paddle before returning home.

If you need a club boat email the quartermaster mailto:quartermaster@bathcanoeclub.co.uk

Transport

For environmental and economic reasons we should car share as much as possible. However with sea kayaks only 2 per car is recommended. Fuel cost usually around £30-£50 per car + parking. Actual cost between you and driver/passenger.

Weather

This is a weather dependent trip. We will do our best to find somewhere sheltered on the day but may have to postpone at short notice (day before) if the weather is not kind.
