3 star sea weekends One and Two. £20 non returnable (unless replacement paddler found to take your place) deposit needed in advance as cash or cheque payable to ‘Rhoda Daniels’ to allow me to book coaches/accommodation etc. Please let me know if you want to come on one or both weekends. If too many people want to come we may only be able to allow one weekend each though.

Oct 6+7th weekend – 3* sea training and assessment weekend One

Based at Dyers Farm, Nethercott, Near Braunton North Devon EX33 1HT

Standard: those who feel they may be ready to take their 3* sea assessment in the next few months – (this usually means paddling a sea kayak regularly for at least a year; check yourself out on the chart below). Three star sea skills, both practical and theoretical, will be revised with lots of hints and tips. For those who are ready the 3* assessment will be completed. Otherwise an individual learning plan to help achieve 3* will be made. Anyone who already has 3* sea but wants to help is also welcome.

Stay at Dyers Farm on Friday evening and meet in the farmhouse kitchen at 9am with packed lunch and paddling gear ready to go (but do not change into kit until get to beach). Self-catering farmhouse accommodation for Friday and Saturday nights. Fully equipped kitchen. Bring food, drinks, sleeping bags and pillow case and towels, or single sheet, duvet cover and pillowcase. If lots people bring camping mattress if have one.

Costs:

BCU Registration Fee for those who pass the assessment = £12 for BCU members and £25 for non BCU members.

Coaching costs – will depend on numbers (as if more than 6 people, I will have to hire in a second coach who can assess 3*sea) approx. £40

Accommodation costs work out at just over £200 for the weekend divided by number of people staying – Expected max. cost £30.

Fuel costs: approx. £50-60 return depending on vehicle.

Bring all your own kit (including first aid kits, tow lines etc if you have them). Book out club boats via quartermaster <quartermaster@bathcanoeclub.co.uk> using the boat asset code as listed on the club website.
