Sept 28th – 30th – South Devon Newton Ferrers camping weekend– CAMPSITE FEES

We did this a few years ago and had a great time. Sorry I have had to change the date of this weekend from the one previously advertised. Standard – ITP or equivalent experience.   Turn up at Briar Hill Camp Site, Newton Ferrers, Near Plymouth, South Devon PL8 1AR with your camping kit and kayaking kit on Friday evening. Scott who runs the campsite has asked me to collect details of names, tent/van/caravan size, need for electricity hook up so please let me know in advance if you are coming. Pay him directly on Saturday morning for your camping – cash please if possible. Meet at 9am on Saturday morning in the campsite to make a plan for the day depending on weather, numbers, ability etc. For those who don’t know, Newton Ferrers is a beautiful village on a large estuary with 3 pubs to paddle to in the evening (and yes the tide is in in the evening that weekend!). The estuary is safe to play in for the less experienced and even for those in open canoes and short boats (ware some areas of strong tidal flow). At low tide the sand bar at the entrance to the estuary can provide some safe surfing. For those in sea kayaks we will hope to go out of the estuary and paddle to Wembury Beach to look in the rock pools, surf, and sit on the beach eating cream teas from the old mill teashop. More experienced sea kayakers may want to paddle around the Mew Stone or paddle to Plymouth. Book out club boats via quartermaster <quartermaster@bathcanoeclub.co.uk> using the boat asset code as listed on the club website. Please note these will not be guided trips so you must be aware of your ability and plan the trips you go on accordingly.

Friday 28th September – if you are free during the day on Friday 28th I am happy to arrange a paddle somewhere on the way down to South Devon such as Salcombe or Dartmouth. Let me know if you want to paddle on the Friday too.
