This is a fun taster session at the clubhouse for anyone who wants to give it a go. We will just be paddling in the area outside the clubhouse and there will be coaches on the water at all times. You can go on for as long as you want depending on how busy we are. There will be refreshments available.

There is no parking available at the clubhouse so please arrive on foot.

Do I need to have canoed before?
Go Canoeing Starter Sessions are suitable for absolute beginners and you don't need any canoeing experience - just come along and have a go.

How long will the session last?
Go Canoeing Starter Sessions will vary depending on the provider, but expect to be on the water for approximately 20 minutes to an hour, depending how many people are there wanting to have a go. Some sessions may last longer or you may have the opportunity to get back on the water later in the day.

What should I wear?
Bring comfortable warm clothing, such as tracksuit bottoms (ideally not jeans) and layered tops, as well as any water/windproof over layers and a pair of old shoes which you don’t mind getting wet. Check the weather before leaving the house to ensure you take clothing to suit the conditions. If it is sunny, don’t forget to wear sun cream and a hat as the reflection of the sun off the water can be strong.

What else should I take with me?
You should take a change of clothing along with a towel. Depending on the length of the Starter Session you may wish to bring along a snack or drink.

Will there be other people on the water at the same time?
There may be, however you will be given the appropriate supervision and guidance and will not be left on the water alone.

What can I expect in the session?
The aim of Go Canoeing Starter Sessions is to provide you with a fun canoeing experience in a safe environment. Depending on the facilities available you may have the opportunity to try different boats and discover what canoeing has to offer.

Can I turn up on the day without booking?
Yes, however, if the numbers are at full capacity, you may have to wait until there is space to get on the water.

Will there be equipment for me to use?
Yes, all safety equipment, paddles and canoe/kayaks will be provided. You will however, need to take appropriate clothing, see ‘what should I wear?’ for more information.

How much will a session cost?
Nothing, absolutely free.

How can I book onto a Starter Session?
No booking is required, just turn up on the day. You can book if you want to.

I have a disability can I go on a Starter Session?
Some Starter Session venues will be able to cater for disabilities better than others. It will depend on your disability and requirements. Contact the event organiser for more details.

Will there be changing facilities and toilets?
Yes, full changing facilities and showers are available in the clubhouse.

Adults and children (age 8 and over) are welcome.
Children under 14 must be accompanied on the water by an adult.
