Coach: Julian Haines

BCU 3 Star Sea Kayak training covering all aspects of the syllabus. It's suitable for anyone paddling comfortably beyond 2 Star standard and with some sea kayaking experience. For guidance only, it's probably a year or more since you passed 2 Star and you've probably taken part in half-a-dozen club sea-kayaking trips.

We'll start with a theory session on a Tuesday evening, at a venue in central Bath (TBD), covering introductory trip planning, weather, tides, land effects, safety and such like. The following weekend we'll be away in Pembrokeshire during which we'll spend most of two days on paddling skills, but it will also be an opportunity to observe and apply some of the theory learned earlier.

Camping at Porthclais Farm, near St. David's, Pembrokeshire. Pubs, shops and restaurants are less than a mile walk away. We can launch conveniently from Porthclais Harbour or Whitesands and there are many other possibilities within a short drive, depending on conditions. Note camping, food, transport and such like is not included in training cost.

About a 3 hour drive from Bath.

You must satisfy yourself that this trip is suitable for you, that you are sufficiently experienced, able and willing to paddle at the advertised level. For detailed guidance, see trip categoristion. If in doubt, seek guidance from the advertised leader before registering.

You must register if you intend to come. Places are restricted in an effort to maintain an acceptable experience ratio amongst participants. If it's full, contact the trip leader to see whether any more places can be made available.

If you change your mind, that's okay! But please contact the trips officer as soon as you know so that someone else can register in your place.

You must bring suitable equipment or make arrangements for someone to bring it for you (eg. kayak). See what to bring.

You are advised to book a club boat, if you need one, by contacting the quartermaster(s).
