A weekend in Devon- probably grade 2/3 ish skills needed: good support strokes, breaking in/out in fast moving water, confident ferrying and a roll would be nice but not mandatory! If anyone can get away at Friday lunch we could do a quick blast perhaps the Dart Loop.
Saturday we'll decide based on group's experience and river levels but possibly Tavy, Walkham or Teign. The Tavy is a long way away so leave Bath to arrive in Tavistock by 10:00 - but again meeting point may need to change. Sunday we'll probably run the Dart Loop or Teign. Leave Bath to meet at Newbridge car park or Chagford around 10:30. If you can only do one day or will drive direct on Sat/Sun morning we will sort out a definite rendezvous by Thursday night (unless there are issues with rain!). The best news is that the club's sea paddlers have a large venue booked at Slapton Sands which is 20 miles/40 mins from the Dart. It's at the FSC Start Bay Centre at Slapton. You must register here for this trip, but book the accomodation through the separate event listing:
Please register if you intend to come, it has car details and if driving how many boats you can carry, plus emergency contact details that make it a little easier for the organisers. What to bring -
Warm paddling clothes, two sets if you are flash.
Shoes to paddle in or possibly walk.
Boat - one that will be comfortable for several hours, paddle, deck, helmet and BA
A hot drink is important - an unbreakable flask (attached) in the back of your boat.
Water - plenty of exercise paddling like energizer bunnies
Food - high energy food is best (flapjacks/Mars bars/banana etc. are really good)
A towel or two.
A waterproof jacket and dry warm clothes to get changed into and sit in a pub. Loads of money for pub, food, buying Jon a new boat.
