The second beginners/improvers' white water trip should be (depending on rain/level) the very scenic Lower Dart (river Dart Country Park and paddle down to Buckfastleigh), it's around 3.75 miles long and a little step up from the Exe, with several faster & bumpier stretches.

Open to all members who have completed ITP, better if you've also been up on the Exe trip. Under 18's will need a responsible adult (either a parent on the trip or an over 18 to volunteer).

Being shorter we can spend more time practising breaking in/out etc.

As always it will depend on river levels (at least 0.50m would be ok), so fingers crossed for some rain particularly at the end of the week - if there isn’t any rain we'll be seeking an alternative, possibly Wales.

We also need a good number of experienced paddlers.

Please register if you intend to come, it has car details and if driving how many boats you can carry, plus emergency contact details that make it a little easier for the organisers.

As always if you haven't offered to take boats please don't drive down to the club house as it'll delay everyone's departure. Plenty of free on street parking near the club.

We'll unlock around 07:45 so be at the club early enough to be away by 08.30 - the earlier you arrive the better boat you get and if lots of people turn up it takes a while to load boats plus it's about a 2:15 drive. With the shuttle run and faff we probably won't be home much before 19:00, so yet another full but hopefully fun day.

If you are driving direct we will drop off boats and people at the BCU land just below Holne bridge (map) at 10:30 - 10:45 and drop the majority of cars down at the get out (Probably Buckfastleigh but we can no longer use the otter/butterfly farm) to try to leave the minimum number of cars up to RDCP as they charge £5 to park - although there may be spaces at Holne Bridge.

What to bring -

Warm paddling clothes, there may be plenty of opportunities to capsize if you want to...

Shoes to paddle in and possibly walk around one weir.

Boat - one that will be comfortable for several hour

Paddle and Spray-deck - make sure it fits and won't just pop off too easily
Helmet and Buoyancy Aid

A hot drink - an unbreakable flask (attached) in the back of your boat is good

Water - plenty of exercise paddling like energizer bunnies

Food - nice energy food (flapjacks/Mars bars/banana etc. are good) there is a nice picnic spot

A towel that is big enough so that the otters aren't frightened.

A waterproof jacket and dry warm clothes to get changed into.

Normally we share the cost of the fuel (250+ miles so £40-£60 in fuel per car) and possibly £5 for car entry/parking/shower at RDCP .

Trip leader yet to be confirmed so I'm happy to answer any questions (canoeing/trip related)
